When you said colonoscopy I was like op, because I have Crohn's and I've done a couple of those before. I'm just so glad you didn't have a problem with the prep because personally every time I have to go through it I get so nauseous cannot even attempt to drink all of the forbidden lemonade. Thank you for being amazing and making all this fun instead of hard to talk about. Love you Phil!

Thank you for posting this; someone I care about ignored stomach pains for over a year; they didn't get diagnosed with Cancer till they woke up puking literal blood. Ignoring pain isn't brave, it's stupid. (They're alive but sans several organs)

I never even thought about the procedure being different but yeah I had to get one when I was 16 🙄 it turned out to be nothing 🙃 but I got to miss school for like three days. But I would NOT of wanted to be awake. Anyway, thank you for making me feel comfortable enough to share about it. I love you

*I needed a colonoscopy because I was having all of those symptoms and things 2 years ago, I was too scared and never did it, I still have most of the symptoms, but I'm terrified of it lmao. I know it's not anything like anal so dont try and convince me* 😂

For real, it can really help to tell your doctor if you're anxious or embarrassed. The first time I had to go for an annual exam to get my, ah, bits checked out, I told my doctor, "hey, this is new for me and I'm a little nervous." She walked me through the whole process before starting, and then explained everything she was doing while she was doing it. It really took a lot of the stress out of it!

my dad recently got a colonoscopy and being under anesthesia he kept telling the nurse "you're looking at my ass aren't you" so the nurse responded with "if you would roll over we wouldn't be seeing it" and my dad being himself said "so you WERE looking at my ass" 🤣

So just before Phil posted this video I started having intestinal trouble, and also had found a lump. I was pretty scared because it was so unusual (and I have IBS). I watched this, then set an appointment with a gastroenterologist, and was so worried. She of course set up an endoscopy and colonoscopy, along with other tests. I have now been diagnosed with severe gastritis, and I'm in the process of being diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I want to say thanks for making the video. It gave me a lot of comfort during my procedures and really made me feel better about the issues I'm having. It normalized something that is often seen as taboo and gave me the push I needed.

In the States, specifically California. the Prep is the most disgusting, foul gallon of Liquid and you have to drink it in a 24 hour period. The last time I had it done there was about 2 cups of it I didn't drink and I caught holy hell from the doctor for it. They are not only checking for Cancer ,butt 😉, Diverticulitis, and Hemorrhoids.

Somehow ended up here. When you said the bit about the Mario kart course, I actually burst out laughing and couldn't stop for a good 30 seconds. After regaining my composure, I realised it's the first time I've had a hearty laugh in - well, I don't remember the last time I laughed like that in 2020. So, albeit, a strange thing to say - thank you ! And as someone who suffers with an the "embarrassing" condition of endometriosis, thank you for speaking up about these routine procedures and how important they are! By breaking that embarrassment barrier, people can get help a lot sooner for many illnesses.

Iv'e done this kind of investigation as well (actually two times) but here in Sweden we have a VERY strict diet for a WEEK. The only food that was okay to eat was like soup without anything in it basically and soda. Imagine this AND have to drink that disgusting prep drink to clean your body. The 24 hours before was HELL because I eat all the time. But it was also a fun experience to see what my inside looks like, it was so surreal and strange to see my colon. Both times when I was done I didn't get a cookie or anything to eat so with all the energy I had left I went to a Chinese buffé restaurant and it was the best feeling ever after a week of hell! 😅😂

I laughed so hard at this video. Had to have my first colonoscopy last month too so it's pretty fresh in my mind. I totally put the butt flap the right way round the first time though. Glad you got the all clear, as did I! Always feels better to get checked for potential early, life saving intervention!

Ayyy, I've had the butt cam done as well. But we were checking for Crohns or Colitis. (I do not have either of those, just other issues.) Hopefully you'll figure out what intolerance you have!

We do half sedatives here too and there are hilarious stories of people telling the doctor they have poop stuck in their butt and trying to “poop” the camera out, and even someone saying.. “No, that’s the wrong hole”

colonoscopies *suCk* but they’re super important, my dad found about his stomach cancer that way and that’s how he managed to get it in stage 1 which managed to help save his life. if you’re able to go to the doctor when something is wrong pls do, it’s important :)

I've had an mri, not because I was sick but because I was part of medical study. And those are real weird. It wasn't as hard to stay still as I thought it would be but it certainly wasn't easy either. And you stare at that computer-white-beige-ish color for so long with the weird rythmic banging that you almost start to hallucinate weird patterns and colors.

i have ibs and i really appreciate this video!!! my ibs would not be nearly as severe as it is now if i would have seen a doctor when i was a kid. i got my first colonoscopy (was actually a double scope; i got spit roasted by cameras) at 19, and at almost 21 im still getting procedures for my GI issues now. listen to your colon, people!!!!

It actually makes me feel better to know that my favorite youtuber of 10 years I know has gone through a small part of something I went through. For 4 years I've been dealing with colitis which is your colon being really really sick. I had to get so many check ups, colonoscopies, not being able to eat all kinds of wonderful foods but 3 days ago after a full year of surgery I'm rid of my colon and I'm better. You were a champ Phil, I got a full anesthesia so I didnt get to experience my colon but I bet it was weird :) Cheers

I've been having stomach problems for the past 2 years which have been absolute shit. But when I first started feeling symptoms, I had several doctor visits, blood tests, xrays, the whole shebang and they found nothing. So of course the next step: an oscopy. Both of my parents have had several colonoscopies because of their age and my brothers had one because of stomach problems too so hearing about it terrified me. We talked to the doctor and decided an endoscopy would be better. I was terrified but the sedation knocked me out and I remember nothing. After I woke up my throat hurt for the next few days but that was it. They didn't find anything but what I have isn't life threatening by any means, so I just call it IBS. All this to say, endoscopies and colonoscopies are not as scary or weird as you think.

I'm 22 and I had to get one. I'm in America and the lemon prep stuff sounds great compared to what I had to drink. And entire jug of miralax mixed with water. I actually threw up. I was knocked out the entire time they looked but I did get sent home with some lovely printed, full color photos of my colon. Was that tmi? Probably

In the us we use a light sedation as well. You’re awake but it does this thing to your brain where you can’t remember the colonoscopy happening at all. You might as well have been asleep

As someone who worked in a gastroenterology office (both peds and adults) and as someone who has had multiple colonoscopies I would like everyone to know the health of your stomach/colon/intestines is very important. If you are having any problems or your bowel movements are weird, don’t be scared to go. It’s better to know what’s wrong then avoid it out of fear.

Thanks for sharing your story, Phil. Colon health is super important and as a fan with chronic IBD, it's really great to see you use your platform to break the stigma. It is weird to talk to a doctor about it, I'm still getting used to it, but know that the doctor is definitely way more chill about the topic than your anxiety brain tells you.
